About Me

Alongside parenting my own three children I have been professionally involved with children and their families in various ways for thirty years.
Initially as a School Dental Nurse then as a Chaplain in primary schools. (for the Churches Education Commission) During my time as a Chaplain I also worked alongside Resource Teachers for Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) equipping children to build their social skills.
I have worked as a counsellor with the Eden /Albert RTLB cluster, Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) and with Resolve. (A psycho-educational programme facilitating therapeutic outcomes for those held captive by their anger) .
As well as developing my own practice I have worked at Relationships Aotearoa both as a counsellor with couples and as a group facilitator for parenting programmes*.

* “Parenting Through Separation.” A Ministry of Justice funded course for those couples who want to minimise the impact of separation for their children.
* “Fresh Start” Parenting Teens.

As a counsellor I have sought to add ways of clinical practice continually to my work that enhance the outcomes for my clients.
My approaches are specific to each client group I work with as needs vary greatly between families, children and Individuals.
Initially trained in Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the ARPI Model (an eclectic approach) I have added Interactional Drawing Therapy, Play Therapy and Brief Solution Focussed Therapy to my tool kit.
Studying Family and Systems therapies at the University of Otago in 2010 has equipped me to work with various Family Interventions.

Although my work has covered several areas I am quick to refer you to others if I believe you would be better serviced by someone else and am happy to give recommendations.

To book – Latest news: 2015: Due to current commitments in the workplace, I am currently not taking on new counselling appointments, however you are welcome to enquire about future availability, by phoning me or send a contact email.
