Dawn Wallath
Child, Adolescent and Adult Counsellor

Trauma-informed

I am a professionally trained counsellor who has gone on to specialise in various areas of interest, most recently studying psychodynamic psychotherapy to support my work with children and adolescents. I also use CBT, solution-focused therapy and expressive therapies to assist my clients to explore and understand their symptoms, enabling them to recover the lives they wish to live.

I have worked in and contracted to community, and educational settings supporting individuals, couples and families however I no longer work specifically with couples. Over the last 16 years I have also contracted for schools in the central Auckland area. I have also worked in specialist palliative care with Hospice, supporting individuals with a life-limiting illness alongside their families. I have also provided group facilitation for Resolve*, Parenting through Separation*, and Fresh Start*.

Alongside working with children, adolescents and their parents, I also see individuals from all walks of life. It is my privilege to support you as you seek to gain new understandings and skills for the situation you are currently facing and to return to a more full and satisfying life.

I continue with regular professional development and supervision to enhance the outcomes for all my clients. My approaches are specific to each group I work with as needs vary greatly between families, their children, adolescents and individual clients.

*  “Resolve” A Psycho Educational programme facilitating therapeutic outcomes for those held captive by their anger.
* “Parenting Through Separation.” A Ministry of Justice funded course for those couples who want to minimise the impact of separation for their children.
* “Fresh Start” Parenting Teens.

Part of my commitment to being a safe practitioner is to refer you to other support networks should your needs fall outside of my areas of expertise.
